Region Volume Measurement Issue - chrisaguilar - 04-16-2021

I am utilizing the region volume measurement tool and I am having an issue with the calculation and exporting quantities. What I get in the Spreadsheet export is "Failed to generate break-down by region: Failed validation of areas after clipping mesh to region."

I have not had this issue before.

This problem is basically the calculation engine not being able to split up the TIN into different regions.  It's quite a generic message.  In the upcoming Kubla Cubed 2021 we have worked on this problem a lot and the message will appear a lot less frequently as we have improved the system.

There are some things you can do to prevent this issue, the most important being to avoid the volume region lines going over vertical parts of the TIN.  Now the most common way that verticals are introduced into the TIN is from elements that have side batter turned off.  So I would suggest as a workaround to go back through your elements on the phase containing the volume regions and the previous phases turning all elements that have side batter : off to something like 1:0.01 which is from an estimating perspective usually a good compromise.

If that doesn't work there is a trial and error approach where you copy and paste all your volume regions into a spreadsheet and then add them back in one by one until you find the one that is causing the failure.  Slightly changing the shape can often get it to calculate as if it takes even a slightly different slice through the TIN the problem is often resolved.  Then keep adding until you get all your volume regions added back.

If you are still having problems after trying the above I would send the file into support so we can take a look.
